Dear Chocolate Bayou Youth & Volunteers:
With great pride and enthusiasm, I send you information on the second group of Chocolate Bayou Heritage Scholarships. Class of 2006 High School seniors and young people currently enrolled in college and adults returning to school are invited to formally apply by doing the following:
Complete the Chocolate Bayou Heritage Scholarship Application that is enclosed;
Attach a writing sample. This can be an essay or any school document that YOU wrote;
Attach current report card, test results or other documents that represent your academic work;
Obtain two letters of recommendation from someone familiar with your volunteer efforts; and
Mail the application with attachments to the District D Council Office at 900 Bagby, Houston, TX 77002 no later than September 15, 2006.
They will be called and scheduled for an interview with the Chocolate Bayou Heritage Scholarship selection committee during the last week of September. The selection committee would like to visit with them and an adult parent or mentor in this interview.
I sincerely hope that young people take advantage of this opportunity, and especially hope that they stay involved in community service. I thank each of you for your assistance in helping us build this scholarship program from a dream to a reality.
Sincerely,
Ada Edwards
Houston City Council Member District D
